Sandra “Sandie” Gayle
Samuels
January 27, 1944 – April 24, 2026
Sandra “Sandie” Gayle (Luther) Samuels was a shining light, born on January 27, 1944, in Santa Clara, California, to Bertie Coffer and William Luther. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her husband, Leo Samuels; her sisters, Vonnie, Ceilie, and Lylana. Her brothers Ron and Tom, and sister Cindy. Her four children, Holly, Spencer, John, and Nancy. Her four step-children, Dale, Tange, Odie, and Dusty. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and her nieces, nephews, and cousins —all a testament to her enduring, kind spirit. She loved them with all her heart.
Sandie’s heart was full of love, laughter, creativity, and an appreciation for God’s creations. She loved going fishing with her husband on beautiful summer mornings, though she always said she let him do the fishing. She truly lived to quilt and continued quilting until her very last day on earth. At last count, she had completed over 60 quilts, often creating them as special gifts for family members. Her eight-year tenure as a quilt store manager was one of her favorite roles, as it happily supported her “habit.”
Sandie adored flowers and plants, and her favorite place was her backyard, wherever she lived, always filled with them. It was her happy place. In earlier years, she also loved drives by the ocean and time at the beach with her children and family.
She also worked in other roles, including managing a floral department and a deli. Her time as a volunteer at her local hospital really showed her selflessness. She always said she loved the women she served with.
Sandie’s love for her grandchildren was evident in the way she delighted in sharing their accomplishments and photos with coworkers and siblings all the time.
Her genealogy research was a meaningful journey of self-discovery, and she proudly celebrated her diverse heritage, affectionately calling herself a “mutt.”
With a heart full of humor and a spirit that inspired others, Sandie will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family and friends will forever remember her contagious laugh, quick humor, and kind heart. We know you will be with us until we meet again.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date. To share a favorite memory of Sandie or to offer condolences to the family, please leave a tribute on this page.
