Obituary

Rose Mary Gilpin Mickelson returned to her heavenly home on March 15, 2026. Rose Mary was born on October 9, 1933, in Salmon, Idaho to Harold Gilpin and Thelma Jorgensen Gilpin. She had one older brother, CL, one older sister, Betty, and one younger sister, Beverly.

When Rose Mary was very young, the Gilpin family lived on Boyle Creek, near Salmon, Idaho. Later, her family moved closer to town, where she spent her youth on several farms in the area. The Gilpin family owned a dairy and milk-delivery business called Sunshine Dairy, and Rose Mary helped with the business.

Rose Mary was a graduate of Salmon High School. In her high school years, she was active in home economics and marching band, as well as cooking, sewing, and livestock 4-H. After high school, Rose Mary attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, where she studied Home Economics. She loved her college years and earned her bachelor’s degree. Rose Mary put her degree to good use when she became a Home Economist for Power County in American Falls, Idaho. This job allowed Rose Mary to work with 4-H youth, whom she enjoyed working with. She later taught Home Economics at Firth High School in Firth, Idaho.

Daniel and Rose Mary were married on October 20, 1956, in Salmon, Idaho, and later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. Daniel and Rose Mary lived in Lago, Idaho, after they were first married. They later moved to Basalt, Idaho for five years and ran a farm there. They decided to return to Lago, where they bought a dairy farm and cropland. They named this farm Dew Vale. It was here that they raised their family and worked together for 40 years. After they retired, they moved to the town of Grace, where they lived for 20 years.

Rose Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings in the LDS Church and touched many lives with her faithful service. Rose Mary and Daniel served together as temple workers in the LDS Logan, Utah, temple for ten years. They cherished that time serving together.

Rose Mary was very active in the community and volunteer service. Some of the areas she served in included Cub Scouts, cooking and sewing, 4-H, Parent-Teacher Association, Dairy Wives Organization, the Singing Mothers Group, Utah Daughters of the Pioneers, and Literary Club. She also spent lots of time judging home economics projects at local fairs.

Some of the things that Rose Mary loved were flowers, birds, crafts, music, and travelling. In her youth, she loved singing with her two sisters. After she became a mother, she grew to treasure time with her family, especially going on trips with Daniel. She loved her children and grandchildren so much and considered them some of her greatest blessings.

Rose Mary had a special ability to serve others and recognize their needs. She often sought out those who were lonely or struggling and found ways to help and comfort them. Rose Mary made close friends wherever she went and kept those friendships for life. Whenever friends and family visited Rose Mary, she asked them to sign her guest book so she could remember them. Her legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to live on in the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved her.

Rose Mary is survived by: Connie Mickelson, Blaine (Cristina) Mickelson, Lenae (Kevin) Manhart, Stanley (Juliet) Mickelson, Lettie (Steven) Harrison, Mandi Mickelson, and Nolan (Marcia) Mickelson, 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Beverly Mechling.
