Robert D. Avery, or as most folks knew him, Bob or Bobby, passed away peacefully at the age of 73, at his home in Franklin, ID, on July 29, 2025. Born on December 21, 1951, in Ogden, UT, Bob was the kind of guy who left an impression. He spent his career as a proud lineman at Mountain Bell Telephone Company, where he not only made connections for a living but also forged friendships that would last a lifetime.
Bob was a simple guy at heart, often found fishing, tinkering with gadgets, or doing his best to recycle just about everything he could get his hands on. Seriously, he was on a quest to save the planet, one rusty can at a time! Bob had a special relationship with his beloved four-legged buddy, Brandy.
Bob had an excellent partner in life, Penny Marie Stoddard, whom he married on August 18, 1978, in Layton, Utah. Their bond was strong, but sadly, they had to say their goodbyes in March 2024 when Penny passed away. We know they’re reunited now, along with Bob's parents, Donald B. Avery and Josephine Nord Underwood, and a brother, David Avery.
He is survived by his children: Chad (Eustolia) Avery, Heath Avery, Lisa (Jeremy) Schenk, and Jared (Sheri) Avery. His legacy continues through his twelve grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his spirit forward. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Avery, and a sister, Debbie Bostain.
Bob Avery may have been a simple man, but he lived a life full of love, laughter, and a mission to ease the burden on Mother Earth. So, here’s to Bob—a man who will be missed dearly, remembered fondly, and celebrated for all the little things that made him wonderfully unique. Even in death, Bob wanted no fuss and chose to be simple, requesting no services.
The family would like to express their thanks to Symbii Hospice and especially Thelma Roley, as well as Red Rose Funeral Home. To share a favorite memory of Bob or to offer condolences to the family, please leave a tribute on this page.
