Reed C. Swann, a devoted family man, diligent worker, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 31, 2026, in Logan, Utah. Born on August 17, 1950, in Preston, Idaho, Reed’s life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for the outdoors and those around him.
Reed grew up in Banida and graduated from Preston High School in 1968. His journey of service began early, as he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California East Mission. It was during this mission that he met his beloved wife, Debra Lee Pettitt, whom he married on January 22, 1972, in the Los Angeles Temple. Their partnership was a foundation of love and commitment that endured until Debra’s passing.
Throughout his career, Reed devoted most of his professional life to Morton Thiokol, where his exemplary work was recognized with the prestigious Silver Snoopy award. Later in his career, he supported his son Charles in running Shield Computing in Preston before retiring. Retirement did not slow him down; in fact, his hands always needed something to do, leading him to run a handyman business that allowed him to continue serving others.
Reed’s personality was defined by his love of people, willingness to help, and a passionate dedication to family and community. Serving was not just an occupation but a calling—he found joy in delivering meals to the homebound and spending time serving at the Logan Temple. Reed spent over 12 years working and serving in the temple, helping in God's work. Reed’s deep affection for his family was evident in the countless hours spent outdoors with his children and grandchildren, sharing fishing, hunting, camping, golf, and attending the temple together. Charles fondly recalls the great stories Reed would tell around the campfire, memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Penny Swann and Charles Swann, and by his daughter-in-law, Sarah Swann. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—David, Eli, Gwen, and Evie Swann—each of whom was a light in his life. Reed was predeceased by his wife, Debra Lee Swann, his parents, Alexander and Anna Swann, and his siblings, Verna, Normon, Elsie, Glenda, Janet, and Opal.
Reed C. Swann’s life was a testament to humility, service, and steadfast love. He was blessed with the grace to say “I love you” and “goodbye” to his children and grandchildren before his passing, a moment of peace that epitomizes the deep bonds he nurtured throughout his lifetime.
Those who knew Reed will remember a man who loved the outdoors, valued his relationships deeply, and whose hands and heart were always outstretched in service to others. His spirit leaves a lasting imprint on the lives he touched and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Mink Creek Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a visitation on Thursday, April 09, 2026, from 6 to 7 PM at the Red Rose Funeral Home, 56 S State Street, Preston, and again on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church, prior to the services. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream of the services will be available. Burial will follow in the Mink Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would graciously appreciate donations to help offset medical and funeral bills. Donations can be made by Venmo to @PrestonAggie. To share a favorite memory of Reed or to offer condolences to the family, please leave a tribute on this page.
