Naomi Jean Carter

April 25, 1938 — September 4, 2025

Preston, ID

Our sweet Mother Naomi Jean Daw Carter passed peacefully on September 4, 2025. She was able to rejoin her husband Larry Leon Carter and her two sons, Larry Craig Carter and Jimmy Deloy Carter. There were many other joyous reunions on that day.

Naomi was born on April 25th, 1938 in Basalt Idaho, to Deloy Francis Daw and Ivy Mogene Daw. She was raised on the farm in Osgood, Idaho, where she worked hard with her siblings and father. They spent long hours together working hard, hoeing beets, having fun, and building grit and character that would help carry her throughout her life.

Naomi graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1956. In her youth, she spent time socializing with friends and on one of these many occasions they were spending an evening on the main drag of Idaho Falls. She met a dashing young man named Larry Carter. A date night was agreed upon and it went so well that Larry playfully absconded with one of her clip-on earrings and told her that she could only have it back if she agreed to a second date. More successful courting resulted in Naomi falling for Larry’s fun and teasing personality and they were soon married on November 22, 1957. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 21, 1962. This union brought 6 children that they loved and adored to their life.

Her life was characterized by hard work and service to others in and out of her family circle. Naomi was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Throughout her life Naomi served in many callings, including with the Primary, Young Women, and as a District and Stake Relief Society President. She touched countless lives through her Christlike love and service, always reaching out to those in need.

When Naomi was not chasing church callings and children she loved reading, crocheting, and quilting. Some of our favorite talents of hers, were her skills in the kitchen where her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and cookies filled countless memories. Her cookie jar was never empty which was always a fun treat for her grandchildren.

Naomi was a quiet constant in all our lives and family events were always brighter with her at the center quietly ensuring everything came together. She had the best laugh and all her family loved to find ways to tease her so we could listen to her giggle again and again.

Naomi’s life was a testament to love, faith, and service. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and devotion that her family and those who knew and loved her will continue to carry on.

She is survived by 4 of her 6 children. Clint (Kristi) Carter of Heber City, Utah. Cindy (Todd) Thomas of Preston, Idaho. Cherie (Nels) Peterson of Oakley, Idaho, and Steven Carter of Heyburn, Idaho. Three siblings also survive her, Connie Gibbons of Ammon, Kim (Lynette) Daw of Queen Creek, AZ, Denett (Danny) Jensen of Rigby and sister-in-law Karen (Ed) Daw of Layton, UT and sister-in law Kay Daw of Utah. She has 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter. . She is preceded in passing by her husband Larry Carter, sons, Craig and Jimmy Carter, daughter-in-law Diane Carter,  siblings Edwin Daw, Steve Daw and Norma Albertson and brother-in laws Jerry Gibbons and Ronald Albertson.

The family extends their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Heritage Home Assisted Living Center in Preston, Idaho and Symbii Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided to Naomi throughout her journey. Their kindness brought peace not only to Naomi, but to each of us who walked beside her through this chapter of her life.
