Miller Ray Crane, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, left this world on May 26, 2025, in Preston, Idaho, at the age of 87. Born on March 17, 1938, in Richmond, Missouri, Ray lived a life marked by love, service, and a remarkable sense of community.
Ray was married to his sweetheart, Louise, on April 20, 1957, a union that brought forth a loving family of eight children and countless cherished memories. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple, a testament to their deep commitment not only to each other but also to their faith. Throughout their life together, Ray upheld a strong devotion to his family, which he regarded as his proudest accomplishment. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities.
A proud veteran, Ray served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1967, where he honed his skills as a construction electrician. This foundational experience instilled in him a strong sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life. He was not only a skilled tradesman but also a man who dedicated himself to helping those around him.
Ray was known for his engaging personality. He had an innate ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, reflecting his kindness and humor. He was a well of endless knowledge, often encouraging others to ask him anything they were curious about, as he proudly declared, "I know everything." Fond memories of Ray often include the joyous times he spent with his family, sharing stories of his childhood, his military service, and the many travels that enriched his life. He took great pride in the church, raising his children, and taking care of Louise through the years until her passing.
Ray loved aviation, and he obtained his own private pilot license. His hobbies were a testament to his diverse interests; he found joy in collecting knives, pencil sharpeners, and coins. Long drives in his truck, exploring the outdoors and observing deer and other wildlife, provided him with peace and happiness.
Ray succumbed to injuries due to a fall, leaving a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His spirit, however, will remain in the stories shared and the memories created with his family and friends. As we remember Miller Ray Crane, let us carry forward his commitment to kindness, his thirst for knowledge, and his love for storytelling, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire those who follow.
Ray is survived by his loving children: Gwen (Jay), Barbara (Darwin), Marsha (Kenny), Michelle, Mike (Sarah), Anthony, Carl (Desiree), and David. His legacy lives on through them, as they hold dear the lessons and love he imparted throughout his life. Ray is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise, of 64 years, and his two loving grandsons, Steven and Joshua.
