With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our sweet Mama, Kelly Christine McFarland, 59. Kelly was truly one of a kind—funny, kind, endlessly giving, and unapologetically herself. She never knew how to whisper, and her vibrant personality could fill a room. Life was brighter, louder, and more joyful with Kelly in it.

Kelly grew up in Logan, Utah, and graduated from Mountain Crest High School. Throughout her life, she carried a warm, caring spirit that made her deeply loved by everyone who knew her.

One of Kelly’s sweetest trademarks was calling everyone “love.” Whether she greeted you with “hello, love” or thanked you with “thanks, love,” she made people feel welcomed and valued. Kelly also had nicknames and little songs for everyone that will forever be cherished.

Above all else, Kelly loved her Family. Her children and grandchildren were her world, and she treasured time with them, especially outings with her grandkids. Her love for her Family was immeasurable, and the memories they created together will be held close to their hearts forever.

Kelly also had a special place in her heart for her beloved pups, who received the same love and affection she gave so freely to everyone around her. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including watching movies (comedies were best because her laugh was funnier than the movies), reading, indulging in chocolate, and spending time with the people and animals she loved.

Kelly found her true passion working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Caring for others came naturally to her, and she offered compassion, comfort, and dignity to the people in her care. She cared deeply about those she looked after, and for Kelly, nursing was more than a profession; it was an expression of the kindness, generosity, and devotion that defined her.

Even in passing, Kelly found one last way to give. Through organ and tissue donation, she offered the gift of life and hope to others. This final act of generosity beautifully reflected the selfless way she lived. Throughout her life, Kelly put others before herself, and even in her passing, she continued to give. Her legacy of love, compassion, and kindness will live on not only in the hearts of those who knew her, but also through the lives touched by this final gift.

Kelly was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Trudy Ricks; her grandmother, Moselle; her brother, Norman; her nephew, Dalton; and many other cherished Family members and pets. We find comfort in imagining the joyful reunion awaiting her with the loved ones who went before her.

She leaves behind her loving father, affectionately known as “Pa,” LaMar Ricks; her children, Shaelee Quayle (Kolby) and Garrett McFarland (Carly); her cherished grandchildren, Hadlee, Ayden, Stella, and Nixon; and the many Family members and friends whose lives she touched. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her Family will carry her memory and love with them always.

The Family extends its deepest gratitude to Kelly’s brother, Joey, and her dad, LaMar (“Pa”), for acting quickly to get her help. Their quick thinking, love, and devotion during that critical time mean more than words can express. Our Family will forever be grateful that they were there for Kelly when she needed them.

We also want to thank the many nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals who cared for Kelly, especially the teams at Logan Regional Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center, as well as the paramedics and Life Flight crew. We are deeply grateful for your compassion, dedication, and tireless efforts, and for the kindness you showed Kelly and our Family during such a difficult time. Your care and support will never be forgotten.

Kelly will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her inability to whisper, her generous spirit, and her beautiful habit of calling everyone “love.” She showed up for others, gave freely, and made people feel welcome and cared for simply by being herself. Her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled, but the love she gave will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

We will miss her deeply—her voice, her warmth, her humor, and those tight hugs she would pull you into. We will miss the way she could make us laugh and always put others before herself. Most of all, we will miss the wholehearted way she loved us.

A Celebration of Life honoring Kelly will be held at a later date. We will share details with Family and friends when arrangements are finalized.

Until we meet again, Mama, give everyone up there a big laugh and hug from us, and know that down here, we will love you always and miss you forever.

Forever our Mama. Forever our grandma. Forever our love.
