Obituary

David Arnold Hildebrandt, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Logan, Utah, on July 1, 2026. He was born on October 21, 1943, to Arnold and Helen Hildebrandt in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up surrounded by family, faith, and music.

His early years shaped the humor, generosity, and steadiness he carried throughout his life. David built a life centered on service, hard work, and deep love for his family. Their travels throughout the world were legendary and often included his extended family members that he loved and supported as his own.

After his graduation from Washington High School in Milwaukee, David attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and served a two-and-a-half- year mission to Germany as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his mission, David acted as personal secretary and translator for then Elder Ezra Taft Benson, who would go on to become the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he treasured the sacred experiences they shared together. After returning from his mission and graduating from BYU, David continued his education at the University of Wisconsin, graduating at the top of his class with a Doctor of Law degree.

David married Kathryn Ann Crego in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1967 and began his law career in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A job opportunity soon took them to Washington, D.C., where David became a partner at the law firms of Dow Lohnes and Albertson, Greenberg Traurig, and White and Case, working as an international tax lawyer.

David and Kathie raised four beautiful children during their years in Washington, DC, and David found many opportunities to serve others. As a scoutmaster, David helped many young men earn their Eagle Scout awards, served in leadership positions in his local LDS congregation, and, with Kathie, was invited to be a member of the LDS Church International Committee, hosting ambassadors and diplomats from around the world and making friends for the Church.

After many productive years in Washington, DC, David and Kathie desired to be closer to their children and grandchildren in Utah. David continued his law career working with the law firm Kirton/McConkie in Salt Lake City. They eventually retired to Logan, Utah, where David enjoyed serving in the Logan Temple and continued to work at home on special projects, helping many people with taxes, legal problems, and wills and trusts.

He also continued his work with Intuit, TurboTax until the time of his death. To David, the most important part of his career was the lifelong friendships he made with people as their personal family lawyer.

David will be remembered for his devotion to God, service to others, and the eternal love of his family. His legacy of kindness, fun, and generosity will continue in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

David will be greatly missed by his wife Kathie and their children, Anne-Marie (Morrigan), Anthony (Diana). Andrew (Alisa), Karen Ann (Brent) and 12 grandchildren. David will also be missed by his three siblings, Janielle, Stephen, and Jay, and by the many members of David and Kathie’s extended family.

There will be a funeral service to celebrate David’s life on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 AM at the LDS Chapel at 645 Trail Circle, Logan, Utah 84321. There will be a viewing at the church from 9-10:30 AM before the service. Burial in the Logan Cemetery will follow the service. For those unable to attend the funeral services in person, a live stream of the services will be available by following the link below.

Arrangements are being made by the Red Rose Funeral Home in Preston, Idaho.
