Obituary

Cathy Rae was born Cathy Rae Clark to OE May and Curtis Jackson Clark on January 24, 1946. Her parents, while stern, were supportive. In her youth Cathy had vocal coaching from Guido Caselotti - the father and vocal coach of Adriana Caselotti, the voice of Snow White in Disney’s Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Cathy was expressive and creative even as a child and she would dive into different interests and collect skills along the way.

She was accomplished with a sewing machine, creating all the clothes for her two oldest children for several years – you can see her work in their elementary school photos. She could type fast, a skill learned at vocational school. She worked briefly as an Operator for "Ma Bell."

She loved to make things beautiful. She was a prolific painter, restorer of old treasures, and an arranger of flowers, both fresh and dried. She decorated for every holiday with special passion, but no one could rival her flair for Halloween and Christmas. Her Easter egg hunts were the greatest any grandchild ever experienced. Explorers may still discover some of her "unfindable" eggs and the treasures inside at the end of Temple View Drive.

Cathy’s home of 48 years in River Heights had a beautiful flower garden. Her yard could not contain her. She was the OG guerrilla gardener of River Heights. If she saw an area that she thought could be more attractive with the addition of a few well-placed plants, she would get to work, occasionally pruning and planting without consent. She was proud of her work, even when she occasionally came afoul of the law. She also sang in the choir, played the piano, and loved serving others - occasionally by request.

Above all, Cathy Rae was a mother and grandmother. She raised five unique children. She encouraged them to find and explore their interests, creating a unique and personal relationship with each child. She saw the individual in everyone. She believed conventions should be challenged but wanted to create traditions. She thought authority should be questioned, but not hers. Cathy was complex. Everyone she knew had a unique relationship with Cathy.

Cathy Rae was preceded in death by her mother, OE May Clark; father, Curtis Jackson Clark; sister, Donna; brothers, Curtis and Lennis, and granddaughter Tayler.

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer, her son Jeremy, her daughter Jeannette, her son James, son Jordan, 14 beloved grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Life, will be held December 12, 2025 at 1:00 pm, at the  Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 800 South 600 East, River Heights, UT. To share a favorite memory of Cathy or to offer condolences to the family, please leave a tribute on this page.
